CHIKANDA PRIMARY SCHOOL-MALAWI
PROJECT COST: $5,000
This school is found in Lilongwe north in traditional Authority Chitukula (approximately 30km from the city of Lilongwe). The school has 1,267 students, 32 teachers and a catchment population of 4,123 people. The school has no water source point, the old borehole at the school is un-repairable, broken for years and abandoned.
Project Proposal: This project will be a complete WASH Project including 4 double pit latrines (2 boys, 2 girls, 2 teachers), 2 urinal stations (1 boy, 1 girls) and 4 hand washing facilities (2 boys, 2 girls). It will also include hygiene training for the students and teachers and will include the planting of 100 trees around the water point and 4-5 trees for each student’s family. It also includes distribution of P&G’s PUR packs to each family. PUR packs - the water purification technology in a powder, is an amazing innovation that quickly turns 10 liters of dirty, potentially deadly water into clean and drinkable water.
