Many Malawians still rely on shallow, hand dug wells or surface water bodies that are contaminated and dangerous.
By utilizing a community-led approach, Freshwater is able to enhance a sense of ownership that encourages sustainability.
each village elects a “COMMUNITY Water Committee” TRAINED to manage construction, OVERSIGHT and maintenance of the water point.
The community contributes local materials like sand and concrete aggregate, as well as MANUAL labor such as MAKING BRICKS and digging trenches.
Celebrate Freshwater!
When a well finally delivers water for the first time to a community there is a great chorus of cheers and whistles as everyone celebrates this new resource for the community.
Water is Life!
